Description

Bespin is much faster and more extensible. Bonus points for skinning Bespin so that it doesn't look like a ugly flash application.

'ey! I think Bespin looks pretty...

I've gotten a really simple demo of Bespin's editor embedded in a page running on a <tt>chrome:</tt> URI, but there's a few issues:

* Bespin uses Dojo and what appear to be some Dojo libraries, so the size of the frontend directory is around 15 MB. I'm pretty sure Bespin doesn't actually use all of this, so we can probably trim it down, but I have no idea how hard that will be.

* There's some weirdness going on with the editor in terms of capturing key events, at least when it's loaded from a <tt>file:</tt> or <tt>chrome:</tt> URI; in particular, the ctrl+tab combination I use to switch between tabs gets eaten up by Bespin.

* I had to hack bespin.client.Server.request() to intercept requests to <tt>/register/userinfo/</tt> and <tt>/settings/</tt> to return canned JS objects.

Will add attachments w/ the files needed to effect these changes.

To use the embedded editor:

  • go into ubiquity's chrome content dir and run hg clone http://hg.mozilla.org/labs/bespin/.
  • apply the bespin-server-patch.js (oops, it's not actually JS, it's a diff) patch to your bespin HG repo.
  • copy bespin_ubiquity_editor.html into ubiquity's chrome content directory and open it in your browser.

Oh, another funky thing about embedding Bespin in chrome, which some of our code has done before, is that we get lots of "XML not well-formed" errors when Ajax requests retrieve JS content. I think this is normally fixed by overriding the MIME type using the XHR (I think the method is called overrideMimeType() or somesuch).

Replying to atul.toolness.com:

I didn't mean to say that it was ugly. The typography is great! But the colors make it look like it's Flex/RIA (which, thankfully, it isn't).

When the economy became a bit less predictable, more women started looking for ways to make their wedding dresses a little less costly. Some women opted to donate their used wedding dresses to other brides-to-be. Others still choose to cherish this garment, saving it for future daughters or granddaughters to wear in their weddings.

The new shop, designer wedding gowns, is almost directly opposite his existing ready-to-wear and couture boutique, at No. 27, which opened in 1984.

The models this week were nine divorcees who were willing to give their designer wedding dresses major makeovers! The designers had to turn old wedding dress into a hip outfit they “can wear in the next chapter of their lives.”
